  • Landscaping, mulching, planting flowers and maintaining public parks
  • Snow shoveling and removal
  • Assistance for the elderly
  • Painting and building structures
  • Graffiti removal
  • Supporting community events and initiatives for all ages
  • Cleaning high school and church classrooms
  • Assisting with food banks and soup kitchens
  • Working with various state parks
  • Collaborating with the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, Trout Unlimited, Habitat for Humanity, and other nonprofit organizations and retirement home programs.

The outreach coordinator continually strives to set up a variety of community service opportunities for youth involved in the program.

Goals and Objectives of the Community Service Program

The primary goal of CSP is to develop competencies that enable youth to contribute constructively to their community. Competency, in this context, refers to the ability to perform tasks that are valuable to oneself and others. The program focuses on practical, goal-oriented, and measurable competency development.

The specific goals of the Community Service Program for each youth are:

  • To gain a greater sense of ownership for his/her actions.
  • To acquire practical life skills that will help the individual throughout life.
  • To have the opportunity to restore their self-image and image within the community.
  • To develop a greater sense of respect for their community and the law.

PATH’s CSP also incorporates our successful behavior management system, Normative Systems, which reinforces the youth’s sense of community belonging and personal responsibility for their offenses. Additionally, PATH’s Four Rs (Retribution, Restitution, Reconciliation, & Restoration) are used, with particular focus on retribution (taking accountability for one’s actions) and restitution (completing community service hours assigned by courts and probation offices). This program gives youth the chance to meaningfully give back to their community.
